Little Math allows you to fully customize how your Numbers Presets play back, from the icons used to represent quantity, to the sound sets that enunciate the numbers as each slide appears on screen.

To edit your Numbers Preset settings, open Little Math and go to the Playback screen

Click on Learn Numbers and select the preset you want to customize

Click on the Settings button at the right side of the screen to open the Preset Settings window, where you can configure your preset and playback settings as necessary.

NUMBER MODE SETTINGS

In the Preset Settings window, go to the Numbers tab and you will find the following options that you may adjust as necessary:

  1. Type – If you want your preset to show a specific set of numbers during playback, choose the "Numbers" mode. Otherwise, if you want your preset to show your own list of pre-set numbers during playback, choose the "Custom" mode instead.
TIP: The Custom mode will allow you to teach specific number groups or sequences such as skip counting, prime numbers, or even multiplication tables!
  2. Number Range (available in "Numbers" mode only) – The Number Range dictates the possible range of numbers that will be flashed on screen during playback. To adjust the range values, you can move the sliders, click on the up or down arrow buttons, or type in a value in the text box for the "From" and "To" fields.
  3. Add New Number (available in "Custom" mode only) – To add a number to your custom preset, simply click on Add a new number (at the top of the left-hand box) OR click on the Add button (in the lower left part of the window).
    or
In the text box that appears, type in the number you want to add and click on the green check button to save it, or click on the red X button to cancel. You may keep doing this until you have added all the numbers that you want to include in your preset.
  4. Number of Displays – This determines how many number slides are flashed on screen for every playback (maximum is 50).
  5. Order – This dictates the order in which the numbers in your preset are flashed during playback. There are three options, namely: "Numerical (forward)," "Numerical (backward)," or "Random" order.

NUMBER DISPLAY SETTINGS

In the Preset Settings window, go to the Display tab and you will find the following options that you may adjust as necessary:

  1. Display – Each Number Preset may display up to three individual representations of a number in any order: "Icon," "Numeral," and "Word."
  2. Sound – Below each Display preview is a small speaker icon that shows which Sound Set will be played along with the slide. To change the Sound Set, just click on the dropdown menu beside the speaker icon. You may choose to use an individual Sound Set or a Sound Group (which is a collection of different Sound Sets that have the same playback setting) for your lesson. By default, Little Math comes with male and female Sound Sets in two languages (English and Chinese), but you can also create your own Sound Sets or download some from the BrillKids Forum!
If you'd like to use a Sound Group, you can further specify which playback setting will be used when the preset is played:
    • According to Group Setting – Use the playback setting as originally set in the Sound Set tab of the Numbers Library screen
    • Random (each slide) – Play a different Sound Set for each preset slide flashed on screen
    • Random (each playback) – Play a different Sound Set for everytime the preset is played
  3. Icon Settings– Icons are pictures or shapes that are used to represent quantity, and in Little Math you can choose to use different icons or change how these are displayed, instead of showing red dots or the default Icon Set. You will notice that the small preview boxes in the Preset Setting window's Display tab change depending on the icon settings you've selected:
    • Icon Sets – Icon Sets contain a group of related shapes or pictures. To change the Icon Set to be used in your preset, select a set from the dropdown menu.
    • Icon Item – You can further choose to use a specific icon from your selected Icon Set for all slides in your preset, let Little Math randomly select an icon from the set, or use all icons in a slide.
    • Size – You can choose how big or small the icons will be displayed on screen, or choose to show icons in a size that best fits your screen (Variable) or show icons in different sizes during playback.
    • Shape Color – If you select the "Basic Shapes" Icon Set, you can choose to make Little Math display the icons in different colors or only in the same color during playback.
    • Icon Placement – Little Math can display icons in a "Random" arrangement, but if you feel your child finds it difficult to determine quantities when icons are randomly arranged, you may choose to use the "Grid" arrangement instead (this often works better for older children). With the "Grid" option you can further specify a Column Count and Alignment for how the icons will be displayed in each slide.
  4. Words / Numerals – In this section you can customize how text is displayed during playback (the settings here will be applied to both words and numerals). If you'd like to teach numbers in a specific language, make sure you set your Word Set to match the Sound Set you've selected.
  5. Background – You can choose to make Little Math display slides with a specific or a random background color. Note that this setting will be applied to all three types of displays (icon, word, and numeral).

Once you're done customizing your Number Preset Settings, click on Save (at the bottom of the Preset Settings window), and your settings will be applied the next time you play your Number Preset!
