NOTE: Starting from Little Reader v3, some of the features are only available with Little Reader Pro.
In this video tour you will get an overview of Little Reader's key features.
The Little Reader version used in the video is v2, where "Play & Edit" was called "Advanced Play/Edit".
-
To start off, let's open Little Reader. You can do this by double-clicking on the Little Reader desktop icon, or by clicking on the QuickLaunch or Start Menu shortcuts.
-
On the first time you open Little Reader you will be greeted by the Start Guide. If you are new to using Little Reader, we recommend that you go through the Beginner's Tutorial as it is an excellent introduction to Little Reader, from setting it up to starting your lessons, with some basic tips on customizing or creating your own lessons!
The Start Guide is also quite handy because from this window, you can easily browse through Tutorial Videos, find answers to frequently asked questions and read tips on how to maximize your Little Reader – definitely a must-see for all first-time users of Little Reader!
-
Once you close the Start Guide, you will see the PLAY COURSES screen, where you can quickly start playing your Little Reader lessons simply by selecting the lesson you want and pressing Play.
-
Now if you'd like a more detailed view of all your lessons, or if you want to customize settings and create even more lessons, all you'll need is in the ADVANCED PLAY/EDIT screen. This screen is divided into three main sections – the Lesson Panel, the Word and Playback Settings Panel, and the Play Panel.
-
Let's take a look at the Lesson Panel first. The Lesson Panel contains lists of Course, Playlist, and Category lessons that are currently available in your Little Reader. To play a lesson, simply toggle the tabs, select the lesson you want, and then press Play. You can also create, edit, and organize your Playlists and Categories using the set of buttons located at the bottom of the panel.
-
Next is the Word Settings Panel, where you can view the list of words, phrases, or sentences included in the Course, Playlist, or Category you have selected from the Lesson Panel. In here you can preview the images, videos, sound effects and pronunciation recordings for each item in the list, and you can also edit, rearrange or add new words to the list.
-
If you want to customize how a Course, Playlist, or Category lesson is shown during playback, just toggle the Playback Settings Panel and you will find several playback options to choose from.
Give your child a wide variety of learning experiences by switching between rapid flashing for right-brain learning and multisensory modes, and changing the background colors, font type, colors, sizes and letter casing. You may even put small subtitles which are useful when you want to know which word will come next ahead of your child!
-
Aside from the Playback Settings Panel, the Play Panel running along the bottom of the ADVANCED PLAY/EDIT screen provides additional options for you to further customize how lessons play back, from setting how fast or slow a slide is flashed, to enabling the auto-pointer for showing the direction of reading to your baby.
One key feature of the Play Panel is the Override function, which allows you to set global playback settings – this way you can conveniently customize all your lessons to play in the exact same way every time!
-
If you find yourself too busy to create your own lessons, you can always go to the DOWNLOAD screen and get as many new lessons as you'd like! This screen takes you directly to the BrillKids Forum Downloads Library, where other Little Reader users have been sharing their own lessons with the rest of the Forum community – look around and you just might find something your baby will love!
-
Say goodbye to messy cardboard cut-outs and endless hours spent gluing pictures onto paper! Little Reader's PRINT screen allows you to print flashcards so you can have hardcopies for use, anywhere and everywhere! What's more, you don't have to figure out which words or pictures to put on your flashcards anymore because you can simply select words from your Little Reader lessons and print out the words along with the pictures. You can then use your flashcards as an alternative to playing lessons in Little Reader, or for teaching your baby during long trips using your BrillKids Flap and Flash cards.
-
Up next is the TOOLS screen, which houses a host of functions that help you keep track of playback statistics, edit your own pictures or recordings, as well as backup your data and optimize your Little Reader's performance.
-
Little Reader comes built-in with two no-fuss media editing tools that you can use to edit or even create your own media files and save these directly into your customized lesson. One of these tools is the Easy Voice Recorder, which will make sound recording and editing so much simpler and easier for you. Now you can record your own pronunciations and picture audio or sound effects – nothing can be more exciting for your baby than hearing a familiar voice during her Little Reader lessons!
-
Another media tool included in Little Reader is the Picture Editor, which lets you resize, crop, or enhance your pictures easily. You can even draw lines, arrows, and different shapes on your pictures to make your lessons fun and more personalized!
-
While you are working on customizing your Little Reader lessons, you may occasionally want to backup your data – for this purpose you may use the Backup/Restore Data function to save a backup of all your data that you can use to restore your Little Reader whenever you need to revert to your original data. Aside from this, you can also use the Import/Export function to save your lesson Playlists or Categories, which you can easily store and transfer to another computer where you have Little Reader installed, or you can upload your files at the Forum Library and share it with other Little Reader users!
-
Next to the TOOLS screen is the SUPPORT screen, where you can find quick solutions to any technical problems you may encounter while using your Little Reader.
If you need a detailed reference on how certain Little Reader functions work, just look it up in the easy-to-use Little Reader Manual that comes built into Little Reader's SUPPORT screen. In case you cannot find the answer or solution to your problem, you can send a message to the BrillKids Team directly from your Little Reader using the "Contact BrillKids Support" form.
In the SUPPORT screen you can also access the Support Tools, which comes with built-in automatic troubleshooting and repairing functions for the most common sound and video playback problems. Simply follow the prompts to fix the media playback problem you are encountering.
In case the issue remains unsolved, or if you are having other problems, just create a Diagnostic Report and send it to the BrillKids Team directly from your Little Reader's Support Tools window.
-
Next up is the FORUM screen, which serves as your quick access to all the recent posts and topics in the BrillKids Forum's Little Reader discussion board. This way you can browse related Forum discussions directly and conveniently from your Little Reader!
-
Last, but certainly not the least, is the PROGRESS DIARY. One thing you might be worried about is how to keep track of your child's learning progress. Well, you need not worry anymore because this is exactly what the Progress Diary is for! In here you can write down notes to document each day in your child's learning curriculum. You can then use your Diary along with the TOOLS screen's Statistics function to keep tabs on how fast and how much your child has been learning!
And that's it – you have just learned about your Little Reader's key features!
