The content files I downloaded were saved as a *.zip file, and now I can't import my lessons completely. How can I fix this?

Sometimes when you download content files from your Account Management page or from the BrillKids Forum's Downloads Library, you may find that the files you got have the *.zip filename extension instead of the Little Reader, Little Math, or Little Musician filename extensions.

When you open these renamed content files, you'll notice that the wrong program will try to open the files, or you won't be able to import the file in Little Reader, Little Math, or Little Musician at all.

This problem is caused by a security feature in certain Internet browsers (most often, Internet Explorer 6 to 8), where the file you are downloading gets renamed automatically to another filename extension like *.zip. This is a known browser bug, and so far there have been little or no updates on when this will be addressed.

There are two ways of getting around this issue:

  1. Simply rename the content files back to the correct filename extensions.
    1. Open your Windows Explorer window and find the folder where you saved your downloaded content files.
      For Windows XP users:
      • Click on the Tools menu, and select Folder Options.
      • In the Folder Options window, toggle the View tab.
      • From the list of options, find the item Hide extensions for known file types and un-check the corresponding box.
      • Click on Apply, and then click OK.
For Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users:
      • Click on the Layout button (leftmost button, beside the Views button), and select Folder Options.
      • In the Folder Options window, toggle the View tab.
      • From the list of options, find the item Hide extensions for known file types and un-check the corresponding box.
      • Click on Apply, then click OK.
    2. Next, right-click on one of the content files and select Rename.
    3. Replace the ".zip" part of the filename with the correct filename extension (note that "l" here is a small "L," not a capital "i"):
      • Little Reader file extensions - *.lrp (curriculum+content), *.lrc (curriculum), and *.cat (category/content)
      • Little Math file extensions - *.lmpk (curriculum+content), *.lmtp (preset), and *.lmtm (media set)
      • Little Musician file extensions - *.lmspk (curriculum+content), *.lmsp (clap-along or notes preset), and *.lmss (media set)
    4. Press Enter, and do the same for the other content files.
    5. After renaming your files, you may try importing your Little Reader, Little Math, or Little Musician files again.
  2. Or, re-download the content files using another browser, if available (we recommend Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome).
    • Once you've downloaded the files completely, you may try importing your Little Reader, Little Math, or Little Musician files again.
