Have you ever wondered why the user you always logged on to was never able to open your BrillKids program? Well, here is a tutorial that tells you why you can't, and how you can change that.
WHY CAN'T I OPEN MY PROGRAM?
Sometimes, Windows (naughtily) changes permissions for certain programs. This is similar to a teacher suddenly pointing to one student and asking that student to "go to a corner". The program won't be able to run or open, and it can't read or write on the database which it is supposed to be using.
You need to GIVE THE BRILLKIDS PROGRAMS PERMISSION TO RUN on your computer.
HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT:
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Right-click on the address bar up top, and click on EDIT ADDRESS.
3. Copy and paste this address to the address bar and press ENTER: C:\ProgramData\
NOTE: If If you're running Windows XP, the address would be:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BrillKids
Lastly, if you're using a system disk other than Drive C:, then just edit the "C:/" path in the addresses given above to the correct system disk you're using.
4. Locate the BrillKids folder.
5. Right click on it. In the pop-up which appears, click on PROPERTIES.
6. Click on the SECURITY tab.
7. In Group or user names, click on EVERYONE. Click on the EDIT button.
NOTE: If you can't find "EVERYONE" on this list, click on the EDIT button anyway. In the next pop-up, click on ADD, then click on the ADVANCED button.
Click on the FIND NOW button. The search result will give you a list of all possible users and groups. Find the entry for "EVERYONE" and then click OK twice to close the small pop-ups.
8. Make sure to CHECK all the boxes under the ALLOW column at the bottom.
9. Click on APPLY.
10. Click on OK to close the pop-ups.
11. Go back to your Windows Explorer. Copy and paste this address to the address bar and press ENTER: C:\Program Files
NOTE: If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows, please try using this address instead:
C:\Program Files (x86)\BrillKids\
And if you're running Windows XP, the address would be:
C:\Program Files\BrillKids
Lastly, if you're using a system disk other than Drive C:, then just edit the "C:/" path in the addresses given above to the correct system disk you're using.
12. Locate the BrillKids folder.
13. Right click on it. In the pop-up which appears, click on PROPERTIES.
14. Click on the SECURITY tab.
15. In Group or user names, click on EVERYONE.
16. Click on the EDIT button.
17. Make sure to CHECK all the boxes under the ALLOW column at the bottom.
18. Click on APPLY.
19 Click on OK to close the pop-ups.
After doing the steps above, try to open Little Reader again by double-clicking on the icon.
