How to restart your Android device

Sometimes you may experience performance problems in your Android mobile device such as apps or files that frequently crash, hang or run too slowly -- often, restarting your device helps resolve these issues. Restarting your device may or may not save any unsaved work that you have, but it will not delete or remove the rest of your files or apps.

NOTE: If you are in the middle of updating your device firmware, DO NOT restart your device until the update has been completed. Doing so may corrupt your device and may result in lost files.

To restart your Android tablet or Android phone:

  1. Hold down the Power button of your device until a menu appears on the screen.
  2. Tap the Restart/Reboot button.
  3. The device will ask for confirmation. Tap OK to reboot.
  4. Your device will restart in a few seconds.
